All children need a loving and stable home environment.
When birth parents are unable to provide this nurturing
environment, Orchards permanently matches children with stable
families through the adoption process.
Many of the children available for adoption are from 3 to 15
years of age and have physical or emotional problems.
Orchards specializes in finding permanent homes for these
children with special needs.
For over 40 years, Orchards has been a leader in the adoption
field. Completing almost 200 adoptions annually, Orchards
continues to brighten the lives of children by providing loving
homes for children in need.
The agency offers an array of supportive services and
resources, such as training and education to assist children and
their families in adjusting to their new lives.
Post Adoption Services (PAS)
Provides crisis intervention, support, and recreational
services to adoptive families in Wayne County starting in 2007.
We have experience serving families with adopted children in
residential care when the plan is to return home, families
adopting a child or children, through the DHS foster care system
when the goal is adoption, and families with a child or children
adopted through the DHS foster care system when the adoption has
been finalized and DHS has identified a need for post adoption
services. This program has a similar target population as
Life Skills as helping adoptive families for whom a need for
post adoptive services has been identified by DHS to prevent
disruption or dissolution has been identified in the eligibility
criteria for PAS as well as Life Skills
What It Takes to be an Adoptive Parent
Adoptive parents must be at least 18 years old and may be
either married or single. Their income must be sufficient
to meet their own family's needs, and they must be able to
provide love and stability for the adoptive child.
Free Training and Education
Orchards offers classes that explore the many issues and
challenges that may arise as a child and family grow together.
These classes are available free of charge to anyone who is
interested.
